Biography Joseph Foladare was born in Los Angeles on July 9, 1909. He earned his B.S. in Physics from Caltech in 1930, his M.A. in English from Claremont College in 1931, and his Ph.D. in English at Yale in 1936. In 1935, he took a teaching position in the English Department at Iowa State College in Ames.
